Some news: for months now, Jamie and I have been advertising that we would release our new album on Friday, June 19th. We take responsibility for and regret the fact that, when we picked our album release day, we didn’t consider that the day we chose is Juneteenth.
It is important to us that we not promote the release of our album on a day that our nation ought to set aside and honor as a celebration of the end of slavery in the United States.
So, we’ll be spending Juneteenth celebrating the end of slavery, and continuing to learn how to be antiracists.
Because: slavery may not exist in a technical sense any longer here, but there is still a whole heck of a lot of work to be done to dismantle the racist systems that continue to perpetuate oppression on Black and brown people in the U.S. We will be part of that work.
And … we will release “And Her Whisper Becomes a Storm” on Saturday, June 20th.
Love and justice – ❤️
